James
with artists Ivanov and Chan spent a few
weeks in the Sham Shui Po district of Hong
Kong working on a "PICNIC' project
which included the 24 hour non-stop painting/composition/video
project . The above images were taken on
the roof of an apartment block in Sham Shui
Po, which is known to be the most run down
district in HK as well as being the most
densly populated are in the world. Our first
exhibition was at the C&G Gallery in
Kowloon. (thanks to all there) During this
time James sketched the score for "Sham
Shui Po" for 12 pianos in a large circle
which was based on "Sham Shui Po Sound
Poem" made from field recordings from
the local area. The Piano Circle was premiered
at the Royal Festival Hall with "Citerna
Circle"

Charon, the mythic demon sailor over the river Styx,
sets off on a journey to recover his mortality. He renounces
his role as ferryman for the dead and sails away on
a sea of oblivion in search for the archetypical home,
the mythical place of his childhood where he can finally
abandon his boat and die.
This film is about memory, mortality and time.
